Alleghany County isn't like the rest of our service area, and the difference is worth being specific about. Roughly a quarter of all the housing here is second homes — cabins, mountain places, and weekend properties along the New River and up toward the Parkway. Alleghany County sits properly in the Blue Ridge, and paint has a harder life up here than it does down in the Piedmont.
Winters are colder and longer. Freeze-thaw cycling drives moisture into every open joint and caulk line, then expands it. Ultraviolet light is more intense at elevation, so south-facing walls fade and chalk faster than the same wall would in Winston-Salem. And the exterior season is genuinely shorter — there are fewer weeks in the year when temperature and humidity let a finish cure the way it's supposed to.
None of that is a reason to put work off. It's a reason to plan it, and to prepare surfaces for the conditions they'll actually face rather than the ones a Piedmont crew is used to.
